The media, no matter how annoying and biased it can be, has proven extremely important in it's connections to our political system. It acts as a gatekeeper, deciding what stories get through into the public eye. Thus influencing what issues matter to us, the citizens. Political parties. Aren't they fun? All the nonstop bickering and battles. Nonetheless they serve an essential role in democracy. They allow people to rally with groups of other people that share similar beliefs about haw the government should be run, giving people a voice that otherwise would likely not be heard. Finally there's interest groups: organizations of people that are pushing for causes they believe in. Critical for their influence in politics, interest groups lobby for support with government officials, endorse candidates that support their causes, and raise money to persuade candidates to back them. Many say they have far too much influence on the government but regardless of whether or not that is true, we certainly wouldn't be where we are without them. Lastly there are the roles and responsibilities of US citizens. Though there aren't many, they are each important. the most crucial being obeying the laws, paying taxes, and voting--the ones that make the country go round. Every citizen's roles and responsibilities are in place to keep the United States running smoothly and make it a place worth residing in.
